Adopting zero tolerance policy against the Gangster culture and Drug Mafia, the Moga Police led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmanbir Singh Gill during several special operations have busted a number of gangs and arrested many gangsters in the past one year.

Sharing details, SSP Gill said that as many as 14 gangs have been busted by the Moga Police with the arrest of over 50 notorious gangsters, their associates and hardcore criminals. The police have also impounded around 16 vehicles, seized over 40 Arms along with ammunition besides recovering huge quantities of drugs from their possession, he added.

Recalling the major successful operations, the SSP said that the Moga Police has recently busted a major target killing and extortion module being run by Sukha Lamme gang, with the arrest of its eight members, who were acting at the behest of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) Chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

“The arrest of the gang members broke the backbone of the group who had created terror in the Malwa region of Punjab by targeting wealthy businessmen for ransom money by making threat calls to kill them if they failed to pay the amount,” he said.

He said that with the case currently being investigated by National Investigation Agency (NIA), all efforts are on to further unravel the details of the gang and investigate any leads that are generated.

Apart from this, the Moga police had achieved a major success in April 2021 with the arrest of associates of Bambiha Gang – Chamkaur Singh @ Beant (One of the three sharp shooters, who killed Gurlal Singh, State president SOPU in Chandigarh in year 2020) and Sunil Kumar @ Baba while they were conspiring to kill Penta Sarpanch of Village Mari Mustafa. In October 2020, Moga Police busted an Inter-state gang with the arrest of three highly notorious gangsters Harman Bhau, Ajay Kumar @ Mani and Amritpal Singh Bhinder who were indulged in highway robberies, attempt to murder for ransom, Gang wars and snatching. In September 2020, the Police had arrested six persons, who were involved in the incidents of firings, robberies and dacoities in the district.

SSP Gill said that with the action against gangsters, the Moga Police has been actively working towards saving the lives and property of innocent citizens and creating a conducive business environment for the businessmen, who are regularly targeted by these gangs. “Moga Police has worked hard to preserve the social fabric of the society which these groups aim to disturb by committing crimes and indulging in targeted killings,” he added.
